Holding Loud Vehicles Accountable: New York State Senate Reviews Solutions — Maybe Noise Cameras?
Drivers of noisy vehicles could be in for an awakening as rude as the sound of their cars and motorcycles.
In the past year, State Sen. Andrew Gounardes has introduced two bills to address the excessive noise pollution that New Yorkers are constantly bombarded with on a daily basis.
The SLEEP Act (Stop Loud and Excessive Exhaust Pollution) would increase the punishment for noise limit violations from up to $150 to $1,000, with a proposed “noise camera” program that would capture photo and video footage of vehicles that exceed the noise limits outlined by the New York City Noise Control Code.
